BRIGHTER PATHS

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator

Project Purpose: Triptych with Social Issue

Year Created: 2023

This project consists of 3 poster designs with a cohesive theme. When confronted with this project I immediately felt the urge to make the theme mental health awareness. A majority of mental awareness posters are dark and gloomy and rarely do we see one that showcases a light at the end of the tunnel. I wanted to showcase that light in my own creative way.

Process Work

Typography

The typefaces I decided to use were Monsterific and Franklin gothic. I chose Monsterific because of its play and dynamic nature. I chose Franklin Gothic to maintain the already establish typeface NAMI created.

Color Palette

The decision when choosing the color palette was relatively easy after creating my sketches. The red would be used for the heart, the pink for the brain, and the yellow for the smiley face. While these colors represent the illustrations they are also vibrant colors to grab the attention for the viewers.

Sketches

The sketching process involved the idea that I wanted to create retro style illustrations that serve as a vibrant attention grabber.

Digital Iterations

The first iteration I was mainly focusing on the “must work together” requirement with the background. While I think the background of this iteration was strong it didn’t work successfully with the assets included in this project.

With the second iteration I was trying to find a way to turn the illustrations into something more meaningful. I decided to change the background into a vintage sports style turning the illustrations into mascots.

Final Work

Assets

These are the final illustrations with the right shading and light sources. These illustrations were hand drawn and created with procreate.

Final Iteration

With the final piece I had to fix the scale and alignment of the illustrations, the shading and light sources, the type at the top of the page, and adding the call to action.

This project unfolds as a celebration for vibrant visuals, retro illustrations, and a reminder that mental health isn’t always a dark topic.
